Pregnancy Massage
(Pre-Natal Massage)
Massage can be very comforting during pregnancy. Your body is
changing, your center of gravity is shifting, your joints are
becoming looser, and of course there's additional stress.
However, pregnancy does add some considerations. If you are
considered high-risk, you should get
a release from your doctor or obstetrician before getting
massage. I will also
do a few simple tests for obvious high risk conditions.
Here's
what to expect:

Massage Modalities
Extras
|
- 1st
Trimester: No abdominal work. No deep abdominal work until
after delivery.
- 2nd Trimester: We'll focus on increasing your breathing
capacity, treating lower back problems, and opening the
pelvic floor by working hip and leg muscles. Near week 22
being face down will become uncomfortable, and we'll place
you on your side instead.
- 3rd Trimester: You may need assistance getting on
and off the table. We'll try to decrease stress to your legs,
hips, and lower back,
decrease edema, and just
relax.
I recommend no more than a one hour massage during pregnancy;
we'll position you comfortably and safely with lots of pillows.
Expectant and new moms probably need some Tranquility Time more
than anyone!
