There are many misconceptions surrounding Deep Tissue
Massage. It does not mean "mashing harder." It does
not mean
using the hard, pointy part of an elbow to dig down deep. And
most important, it does not mean "no pain, no gain."
Deep Tissue is an understanding of the various layers of
muscles in the body, and the ability to work with deeper muscles
effectively. When performing deep tissue
massage, one should
always have a therapeutic goal in mind, such as improving
posture, flexibility, and movement, or simply relieving
pain. These are often long term goals, beyond what one could expect
from a nice relaxing
Swedish massage.

No one would want a full body
deep tissue
massage. It's too
intense. I use it on trouble spots (those achy muscles that told
you it was time to get a
massage). If it's used gently and in
moderation, deep tissue
massage can even be an important part
of a relaxation massage.
My typical
massage is about 25% deep
tissue, but it varies widely depending on the client's needs.
The important thing to know is that at Tranquility Time, a good
deep therapeutic massage doesn't have to hurt.
Expertise is much better than brute force, especially when
we're talking about using it on your body. So call Tranquility
