Swedish Massage consists of five basic strokes:
effleurage (stroking), petrissage (kneading), friction
(rubbing), vibration (fast or slow shaking), and tapotement
(striking). There are many methods to perform each type of stroke.
When people think of
Swedish massage, they often picture a
burly Swede hacking, slapping, and beating a terrified
goggle-eyed client. Although this cliche is not an accurate
picture of
Swedish massage, there really
are tapotement strokes
called hacking, slapping, and beating. At
Tranquility Time I tend not do that much because it's not very
tranquil.
I usually choose more relaxing, soothing strokes to gently coax a muscle
to release its tension.
My typical
massage is about 40%
Swedish massage.
For me, Swedish massage is like the jello holding a fruit salad
together: it supports all the other massage techniques, like
morsels of fruit to be enjoyed as needed or desired.
At Tranquility Time, there is never an additional charge for
deep tissue massage,
trigger point
massage, or any other
advanced skill. I use whatever skills are appropriate to
meet your goals. Feel free to discuss your objectives when you
call 214-395-8000 for your appointment.
